A Poem - Legacy

Bridge Over a Lake

When people die, they create a will

Leaving their possessions to someone they love

And I would also do so, if I knew how to write

To a lonely and sad stray

I bequeath my lovely home

My warm bed, my dish, my toy, my soft chair

My lovely walk, a gentle hand

That loving voice

And place I found in a loving heart

Such love has helped me to have

A painless, peaceful end

While held lovingly

Should I die, do not state

“I’ll never have a pet again whose loss will bring me grief”

Rather find a lonely dog

And hand him my place

This is a legacy I want to leave –

'Tis all I have to offer
