Vina, Jaxon, & Millie

Marble Surface

Welcome to our home Vina!

Vina, originally named Skye, is a mixed breed dog.

She is part Golden Retriever, Poodle, Saint Bernard, and Bernese Mountain Dog.

Initially, Vina was kept by her breeder until the age of five months. It was at this point that the breeder decided to sell her to the first person on her waiting list. The recipient of that phone call, did not have much time to make a thoughtful decision, and quickly said yes, as not to lose the opportunity. Within a week, it was decided that Skye would need a new home.

Through a week of conversation, we were lucky to welcome Vina into our home. Vina, named after Ma Swaraswati's Veena which is a musical instrument. Vina was born on March 19th, 2020. She is a gentle, dorky giant. She is lovable, smart, and playful. She definitely knows how to get into trouble, but only to get your attention!

UPDATE PART 2 !!!!!!!!!

BARKING NEWS!

Superbowl 2022 Welcomed my Soul Dog Millie, to her Furever Home!

One day, Ryan had come across a post on Facebook, which instantly captivated his attention. Various rescue organizations were seeking foster homes for fifty-plus dogs surrendered from a puppy mill!

As soon as Ryan saw the posts, we knew this was the same breeder that Vina had come from.

After we rehomed Vina, we joined a few Saint Bernedoodle groups on Facebook and learned about the breeder, which wasn't all good news. Suffice it to say, we knew these dogs needed a safe, secure, and loving home.

It was a cold day in February, and Ryan and I had driven up north to meet the rescue organizer and other fosters at a local church, which was not far from the breeder's home. The organizer was driving to the home and dropping off the dogs one by one. She had asked us to go to the home to pick up our dog. We had no idea who was coming, as we had seen other foster parents receiving Saint Bernards. We knew ours would be a doodle mix though.

When we got there, Ryan stood outside and the breeder was bringing one dog who was barking so much that Ryan said we'll take the other one! The other one was quiet and had hair over her eyes, black teeth, and feces stuck to her fur. I'm not sure if she had ever been in a car before and she was quite anxious for the first ten minutes.

I was holding onto her leash from the front passenger side when she laid down and rested her face on my arm over the middle console. She stayed like that for the entirety of the ride home. We weren't sure what to name her but wanted to give her a name that her adopters would keep.

All of the dogs rescued that day lived in a 10 x 10 kennel with three other dogs. Most had to fight for their food and used the bathroom where they slept. These dogs were never given names, never shown affection, and were used to pump out puppies.

Millie never walked on a leash, didn't know how to walk up and down stairs, and definitely didn't know how to use the bathroom outside but enjoyed using my rug!

But through the help of Vina and Jaxon, Millie quickly learned how to be a dog! I remember two weeks after her staying with us, she learned how to jump on the couch! I was so happy because it meant she could cuddle me on the couch!

Millie and I had a routine to get her accustomed to home life. We would wake up early and go for a walk and have breakfast so that Vina and Jaxon could have their time an hour later. After a month of this, Millie had become my best friend. The day that she left for her spay and vet check, she was set to be adopted by another family. The first morning of her not being home just broke my heart. Ryan makes fun of me because he says that I hovered over him that morning! Right away he knew and I knew, and I had to beg the rescue organizer to let me adopt Millie.

She is literally my Soul Dog! I love her more than anything, and to anyone who has a soul dog...

I know you understand!
