A Poem - We Walk Together

Bridge Over a Lake

I stood, last night, next to your bed, I came for a little peep

I saw how you had cried, finding it difficult to fall asleep

I softly whines, then you stroked a tear

‘It is me, who has not left, I am well, and fine, and here’

I followed you to my grave this day, your treat is with great care

I wish to say to you, I do not lay there

I followed you back home, you fumbled with the keys

I lay my paws on your arm, smiling, ‘its me’

You appeared oh so tired, you sank into your chair

I tried my best, to help you to know, I’m there

I can be so close and near to you, every and any day

I can say with certainty, “no I didn’t go away’

You stood in silence, and smiled; I know you knew…

That evening, in stillness, I was so close with you

That day has passed, I smiled while I see you yawn

And I say ‘goodnight, sleep tight, and we’ll speak tomorrow morning’

And then, when that time comes, when you traverse the small divide

I’ll run to you, to say hello, to be by your side

I want to show you so much, you should see

Stay patient, finish your journey

Then return home and be together with me
